Battling Tumor From Different Angles (Pie Chart) – Cheryl Broyles' Journey

BATTLING THE TUMOR FROM DIFFERENT ANGLES

From day one when I was first diagnosed with the GBM in 2000, and over the 16 years fighting the brain tumor; I’ve consistently gone beyond the standard treatments by fighting the tumor from many additional angles. Over time following other long term brain tumor survivors it seems that most also go beyond just the surgery, radiation and chemo.

Batting the tumor from many angles has begun to be called the “cocktail” approach; which has begun to be looked into by more research and followed by more doctors. Recently a video was put together about Ben Williams, a long term GBM survivor; that talks about this approach.

There are beginning to be more and more web pages covering this topic too. Additionally, Recently there has been a book published that addresses this topic, called “Radical Remission – the Nine Key Factors That Can Make a Real Difference – Surviving Cancer Against All Odds”, by Kelly A. Turner, Ph.D. What I’ve mostly seen out there is that each person seems to puts together their own “cocktail”, based on their interest, research they have found, what people have told them about, what their doctor supports, and what personally appeals to them.

My personal “cocktail” approach seems to fit into six groups. Starting with the standard treatments, the adding in; boosting an immune system, affecting the metabolism, using natural alternatives, adding in “off label” medications, and lastly the importance of attitude.

Life's Mountains: What A Brain Tumor Survivor Learned

Learn more about my journey from my inspirational book!

Life’s Mountains climbs with Cheryl Broyles to the summit of California’s Mount Shasta and through the trial of “terminal” brain cancer. Told she had only a year to live, Cheryl did everything she could to stay alive. Four years later, still breathing, she and her husband Matt planned to climb Mount Shasta to celebrate her survivorship. Cheryl describes the similarity between climbing mountain trails and living through life’s trials. She gives hope for reaching each peak, seeing life anew and loving each day through the good and bad times.
